A member of the Florida football team helped put a stop to a sexual assault that allegedly occurred outside of a popular Gainesville bar. Florida linebacker Cristian Garcia, a walk-on who played in one game last season, was working security at Cantina in Midtown, when he took out the trash around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning and heard noises coming from behind a dumpster. Garcia, aided by a coworker, looked behind it and saw the assault taking place. At first Garcia thought Christopher Shaw, who is 34 and has since been arrested with sexual battery charges, and the alleged victim were just having sex until he looked closer, according to First Coast News.

"The girl was basically unconscious, so I knew there was no way she could be giving consent," Garcia said.

Garcia told First Coast News that the man's friends were watching the assault take place, and  were doing nothing to help.

Garcia said he walked up to the man and grabbed his shoulders and told him he needed to stop. Shaw then proceeded to throw a few punches at Garcia.

"I hold strong moral values and I don't think anyone should be taken advantage of in that kind of way," Garcia said.

Following an investigation, detectives believe Shaw may have raped other women.

Luckily Garcia was able to play the role of Good Samaritan here.
