The Georgia Bulldogs put together a high-quality recruiting class in 2017 and those incoming freshmen could make a significant impact for Kirby Smart on the field during the upcoming season. However, four-star defensive tackle prospect Devonte Wyatt will not part of that group in Athens, as Kipp Adams of Dawgs247 reports the talented recruit would not be eligible to enroll at Georgia. Instead, the report indicates that Wyatt will be at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas.
Hutchinson head coach Rion Rhoades was quoted as saying that Wyatt is already on campus, albeit with some level of uncertainty.
"He is here. He is enrolled and went through his first practice last night with us. It happened really quickly."
"The jury is still out on his test scores. I think it is safe to say it is up in the air. If he is deemed a non-qualifer then he will have to be here a year and a half."
The 6'3, 300-pound tackle from Towers High School in Decatur (Ga.) is reportedly focusing on sticking to his Georgia commitment when he gains eligibility but, at the same time, it could be a bit before Wyatt can be cleared for SEC competition.
In the grand scheme, this loss would be mitigated if Wyatt was able to report for 2018 and beyond but, if not, it would be a significant defection for Smart and his defensive coaching staff.
