After seeing the contract details for both mean, it's clear why both teams were able to make the moves so quickly.

After reportedly turning down Herman, LSU quickly hired Ed Orgeron to an offer that is expected to pay out between $3-4 million annually.

Ed Orgeron to get 5-year contract, per source. Financials still pending. @RossDellenger reports it's expected to be $3-4 million/year. #LSU

That number is a stark difference to the $6 million figure that Tom Herman was reportedly seeking from the school. That leaves room for LSU to offer Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin a large contract for the same position at LSU.

Meanwhile, Herman is making out well, even if it isn't for the $6 million number that he and his agent reportedly asked from LSU.

Texas source confirms Herman will receive a 5-year deal for more than $5 million a year with escalators to over $6M in final year of deal.

That is a good deal for both parties, as Herman gets a raise from his Houston salary and Texas is essentially paying Herman the same number they were giving former head coach Charlie Strong.

Looks like both teams got the guy they wanted, and everyone walks away with a good monetary deal.
