Cowboys EVP may have hinted at how Dallas plans to use Tony Romo moving forward

With Tony Romo returning to practice this week after sitting out half the season with a back injury, the quarterback controversy in Dallas has reached a crescendo.

But all the to-do about who should get the start, Romo or Dak Prescott, looks like it will finally come to a head Sunday when the Cowboys meet the Steelers in Pittsburgh. And according to team Executive Vice President Stephen Jones, if that means Romo is relegated to the backup role, the 14-year veteran is perfectly fine with it.

"Well, first of all Tony's a competitor and obviously all competitors want to be the very best they can be, they want to play, they want to start," Jones told 103.5 The Fan on Friday via Max Meyer of NFL.com. ""At the same time, Tony's the consummate team player and I think if it meant as part of the process with Tony going into games as a backup then, I don't want to speak for him, but my guess would be that he would."

However, quoting an anonymous source, NFL Network's Ian Rappaport says Romo is officially listed as questionable for Sunday, and this whole quarterback melodrama could actually continue. Jones admits that Romo's status for Sunday is a game time decision.

"I know he's questionable for this game," Jones said, "but we'll determine that at game time and at some point if we do feel that he's ready to go then he'd certainly go into the game as backup."
