The Carolina Panthers added free agent kicker Roberto Aguayo to their practice squad in place of wide receiver Austin Duke on Tuesday, according to the team's official website.
Aguayo, a former second-round draft pick in 2016, was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a disappointing rookie season and offseason. The former Florida State standout went 22-of-31 on field goal attempts and missed two extra points last season.
Aguayo was waived by Tampa Bay on Aug. 12 and claimed off waivers by the Chicago Bears one day later. However, he was once again placed on waivers on Sept. 2, prior to Chicago's first regular season game.
Starting kicker Graham Gano is currently dealing with knee soreness, which likely led to the Panthers reaching out to former second-rounder. Fittingly, Carolina will play at Tampa Bay this weekend which, depending on the extent of Gano's injury, could provide Aguayo with a chance for redemption against his former team.
