It appears we have a front runner for Alabama's new offensive coordinator.
According to 247Sports, former Houston Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey was "expected" to interview for the position on Wednesday. This news comes after reports that former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly had "no interest" in taking the position.
Godsey has spent the last six seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and then the Texans. Before that, Godsey spent seven seasons as an assistant at Central Florida. Godsey's connection to Alabama is in the form of Alabama offensive line coach Brent Key, who was a teammate while Godsey was a quarterback at Georgia Tech.
Whoever is hired as the new offensive coordinator will be replacing Steve Sarkisian, who left the Crimson Tide on Tuesday in order to take the coordinator position with the Atlanta Falcons. Sarkisian had only been in the role of coordinator for a month, as he had replaced Lane Kiffin. Kiffin is now the head coach at Florida Atlantic.
