Virtual Reality has been... well, a reality for some time now. Thanks to the efforts by the original Oculus Rift team, the concept has been picked up by numerous companies, all seeking to provide the perfect experience for VR enthusiasts. And, despite the rather intimidating price range, devices so far have sold moderately well.
If anything, the biggest challenge so far has been providing products for owners to actually play. Currently the VR market is mostly flooded with tech demos and short, indie games that, while fun, do little to justify the initial purchase.
It is this problem that prompted the developers of the HTC Vive to begin offering copies of Star Trek: Bridge Crew free with every future purchase of the device. Check out the trailer for the game below:
Star Trek: Bridge Crew is an immersive VR title that allows players to engage with three friends (or strangers) in an authentic Star Trek experience that rivals all others of the genre. It's also a full game, with an actual campaign and voiced story-line.
That said, it's definitely not for the socially anxious. Star Trek: Bridge Crew will require all players to communicate effectively and thoroughly as they go about their roles, lest they fall prey to one of the game's numerous challenges.
Those undaunted by this and in possession of either an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive can find the title on its Steam store page, where it's available for $49.99 - or free, if you buy the Vive.
