Setting up a future series with a couple of cupcake teams isn't new at all, but this move by Virginia Tech's football team is certainly a new one.

On Friday, the Hokies announced some future scheduling moves that they had made through the 2028 season, and the announcement included future dates against Old Dominion and Liberty — two of the newest programs in the FBS.

However, unlike most teams were Virginia Tech will just make the games a pay-to-play, it looks like the Hokies are willing enough to play away games against those teams, as the two series between those teams will be split like most home-and-home agreements.

Virginia Tech will play three of their seven scheduled games at Old Dominion, and they will play two of their five scheduled games at Liberty. Old Dominion has only had their football program for nine years, while Liberty just opted to move up to FBS play this offseason.

It's an odd move by Virginia Tech, and it will be entertaining to see if that decision comes back to bite them in the future.
