Toomer's Corner arsonist has officially been sentenced

A verdict was delivered Thursday for arsonist Jochen Wiest, who set fire to one of the oak trees at Toomer's Corner after Auburn's 18-13 win over LSU on Sept. 24.

Wiest pled guilty to arson, and he was given a three-year suspended sentence and five years probation. He was also ordered to pay $20,807 in restitution to Auburn to pay for the damaged tree, a $1,000 fine and court costs. According to AL.com's James Crepea, Wiest apologized to the court, but he did not comment to the press after the verdict.

Toomer's Corner has been a target for opposing fans in recent years, but hopefully no more damage will be done in the future.
