A former high school football star who was named "Athlete of the Year" has been charged in a double murder, and if he's convicted, could face the death penalty.

Roman Pray, 18, is one of four people accused of being involved in a double murder, according to the Huntsville Item. Pray was arrested and charged with capital murder, and is being held without bail in the Montgomery County (TX) Jail without bond.

Authorities believe the suspects intended to the victims — two man— but the robbery went bad. The incident happened in a residence, and a young child was present at the time, the Item reported.

Pray was multi-sport athlete at New Waverly (TX) High School, but excelled in football as a 5'8, 166 pound running back who could run a 4.46 40, according to his profile on Hudl. The senior led his team to its first district championship in seven years, the district;s Most Valuable Player, and, according to KTRK-TV, was named Athlete of the Year.

The Item reported that Pray has an offer to track for  Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. His family told KTRK that he was also planning to play football there, and they don't believe he was involved.

"Roman wouldn't kill someone knowing he's going to go to college and everything," his cousin, Elexus Lawrence, told the television station.
