Baker Mayfield has thrived on the field for the Oklahoma Sooners, but the star quarterback has been struggling off the field after his arrest on Feb. 25 that followed up with a vide of Mayfield's arrest that ultimately went viral. Needless, to say the incident has kept Mayfield in the headlines, but he is starting to open up about the experience.
Via SportsDay:
"What I did was a mistake," Mayfield said. "I put myself in a bad position. Especially playing quarterback here, I can't do that. Some things, I can't do what a normal college kid does, but that's what I signed up for."
Mayfield isn't running away from the incident, while at the same time pointing out what he did stands out more because his high profile as the star quarterback for the Sooners.
It's hard to say whether or not the incident would have become as big of a story as it did if the dash cam videos of Mayfield's arrest weren't released to the public.
Mayfield went on to say about the experience via SportsDay:
"That's how I know my teammates are always going to be there for me, when they can just mess around with me, even though sometimes I might not take it as a joke because I'm still, mentally, just getting over it," Mayfield said."
It certainly seems like the whole ordeal has really worn on Mayfield, but with his court date in a few weeks, and football season inching closer, things should only continue to normalize for Mayfield and company.
