A lot went right for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2017 season opener, especially on the defensive side of the ball. While facing off against a New York Giants team that was without star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., the Cowboys were dominant in slowing their opponent's offense and it was enough to propel the team to a crucial win over a division rival.
However, not everything was perfect for Dallas, as the team lost starting defensive back Orlando Scandrick over the course of the game with injury. Now, we know that Scandrick suffered a fractured hand and it will require surgery to insert a plate.

Given the injury, it seems almost inconceivable that Scandrick would play this week against the Denver Broncos, though David Moore of the Dallas Morning News notes that he has not been ruled out for the contest. Still, Dallas has some incentive to take it slow with Scandrick given his importance and the notion that the team needs him healthy for the long term.
It isn't as if Orlando Scandrick's absence would preclude the Cowboys from short-term success but they certainly need him and this isn't ideal for Jason Garrett's team after a big home win.
