The Carolina Panthers are expected to hire longtime NFL coach Norv Turner as its offensive coordinator. Turner, who has been the head coach for three different franchises, has been out of football since November 2016.
According to ESPN, it won't only be the heralded offensive mind joining the Panthers. The elder Turner will see his son, Scott, join him with the franchise. Scott Turner worked with the quarterbacks for the Michigan Wolverines last season.
Turner, who has 114-career victories as a head coach, was last with the Minnesota Vikings as an offensive coordinator until left the job in the middle of the 2016 season.
The members of clan Turner will replace OC Mike Shula and quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey, both of whom were fired on Tuesday.
Head coach Ron Rivera has mentioned that a new perspective was needed when the firings were announced.
"I came to the conclusion going forward the thing we needed to do was bring in a different perspective, different ideas in terms of going forward to what I believe is our ultimate goal, and that is winning a Super Bowl,'' Rivera said after firing Shula and Dorsey.
"I think Cam's got room for improvement. There's room for growth, and he showed some growth this year and made some big steps.''
Turner has a good reputation when it comes to helping quarterbacks grow. Obviously, Carolina is hoping he still has that magical ability for Newton's sake.
