Sometimes you don't have to search for green pastures in order to get more green in your life.
Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo was offered the BYU head coaching job this month, as Niumatalolo fulfilled the Church of the Latter Day Saints requirement that is necessary to become the head football coach at BYU. However, after plenty of thought into the issue, Niumatalolo decided to stay at the Naval Academy.
It appears the Academy has rewarded him for his loyalty.
According to the Capital Gazette, Niumatalolo was given a new contract after his decision to stay, a contract that includes a pay raise.
From the Gazette:
"[Athletic director Chet] Gladchuk declined to reveal specifics of the deal, but acknowledged that Niumatalolo received an increase in base salary among other considerations.
...
Niumatalolo was earning a base salary of just under $1.7 million, according to a USA Today report on Division I head coaching salaries. However, that figure is believed to be outdated and based on when the contract was originally signed in 2011.
Niumatalolo has been the head coach in full since the 2008 season, taking over for the departed Paul Johnson. Niumatalolo continued Johnson's success with the program. Navy has won over eight games on average over the past eight season, and that includes a pair of 10-win seasons.
Navy is 10-2 in the 2015 season and will be playing Pittsburgh in the Military Bowl on Monday.
