NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, like countless other people, has weighed in the Colin Kaepernick situation.

Stewart called Kaepernick a "dumbass" and an "idiot" on Twitter, resulting in a certain kind of backlash he may or may not have anticipated.

What people are referring to here was the fatal incident where Stewart hit into and killed Kevin Ward Jr. during a race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Aug. 9, 2014.

Someone else accused Stewart of being racist.

Stewart tried to set the record straight on Monday.

For the record, I'm not saying our nation isn't messed up, just that police officers are not the root of the problem. They take the blame

Just today, former NFL safety and NBC analyst Rodney Harrison criticized Kaepernick, saying, "I tell you this, I'm a black man. And Colin Kaepernick — he's not black."
