NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, like countless other people, has weighed in the Colin Kaepernick situation.
Stewart called Kaepernick a "dumbass" and an "idiot" on Twitter, resulting in a certain kind of backlash he may or may not have anticipated.
I'm sorry but @Kaepernick7 needs to learn the fact about police before running his dumbass mouth! He has no clue what they go thru! #idiot

What people are referring to here was the fatal incident where Stewart hit into and killed Kevin Ward Jr. during a race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Aug. 9, 2014.

Someone else accused Stewart of being racist.
@TonyStewart @Kaepernick7 Tony, you're a clown. Close your mouth. Your racist is seeping out.

He responded by saying that he had a black roommate for five years.

Stewart tried to set the record straight on Monday.
For the record, I'm not saying our nation isn't messed up, just that police officers are not the root of the problem. They take the blame

The takes on Kaepernick since Friday's protest have been ubiquitous.
harrison didn’t know kap was black, but he sure talked about him the way he and others tend to talk about black qb’s https://t.co/BlIdd41ciQ

Just today, former NFL safety and NBC analyst Rodney Harrison criticized Kaepernick, saying, "I tell you this, I'm a black man. And Colin Kaepernick — he's not black."
Last point I want people to know. I never even knew he was mixed.
— Rodney Harrison (@Rodney_Harrison) August 30, 2016
Harrison has since apologized and said he didn't know Kaepernick was mixed race. Twitter took that and ran with it.
