After the resignation of assistant coach Joe Tumpkin following domestic violence allegations, Colorado has now taken another step in their investigation.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, Colorado has hired the same lawyers that investigated the Baylor sexual assault scandal to perform a similar investigation at Colorado. The goal of the investigation will be to determine how Colorado handled the response to the domestic violence allegations against Tumpkin, and if any policies were violated by Colorado's administration.

The two lawyers involved — Leslie Gomez and Gina Maisto Smith — were a part of the investigation that resulted in the firing of Baylor head coach Art Briles. While the Colorado situation is a far-cry from what has been uncovered at Baylor, Gomez and Smith will still have the same role of evaluation both Colorado athletic director Rick George and head coach Mike MacIntyre.

Tumpkin resigned from Colorado after a restraining order was issued against him by an ex-girlfriend. According to a bombshell Sports Illustrated report earlier this month, the ex-girlfriend allegedly suffered 80 instances of abuse from Tumpkin over a two-year span.

Jane later told tell SI that she suffered approximately 80 episodes of abuse at Tumpkin's hand in the years 2015 and 2016. Many of these assaults had lasted for hours, she said, leaving her with bruises that she hid while working as dean of students at a Michigan high school.

Tumpkin was later suspended from his job at Colorado a month after MacIntyre was allegedly informed of the abuse. Tumpkin is currently facing felony assault charges.
