One lower-tier bowl game just got an appropriate makeover from an advertiser

Bowl games are fun and should be treated as such. Outside of the games that surround the College Football Playoff, the games are glorified exhibitions but, as college football fans, we enjoy them thoroughly and that is what matters.

One quirk to bowl games is the presence of sponsors for individual match-ups and, as of 2017, the Independence Bowl has a new sponsor in the form of Louisiana-based restaurant Walk-On's.

KSLA 12 brings word from Walk-On's founder and CEO Brandon Landry on the heels of what has been reported as a five-year contract with an opt out after the third edition of the game.

"As a proud Louisiana-based brand with our roots firmly planted in college sports, partnering with a Louisiana bowl game has always been a dream."

"We are so proud to make that dream come true by partnering with the Independence Bowl in the great city of Shreveport. Our entire team is thrilled that the game will now be known as the Walk-On's Independence Bowl!"

It may seem strange to have a local food establishment as a primary sponsor but "money talks" in the world of college football and, given Walk-On's frequently appearing on ESPN airwaves in conjunction with Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo, it isn't as if as this is an unheralded brand. More than anything, they seem to be excited and that is what matters.
