Alabama DB calls out refs after title game loss

Alabama has a pretty good reason to be upset considering they lost a National Championship after winning 26 consecutive games before that. The loss also came on a potentially illegal pick play where Deshaun Watson threw a touchdown to Hunter Renfrow to seal the 35-31 win.

The last penalty of the game might have been the worst considering it was a pass interference against Bama that put the ball on the 2-yard line setting up that game-winner. The Crimson Tide committed nine penalties for 82 yards compared to Clemson's three for 35, including that huge pass interference call on Anthony Averett.

One defensive back was particularly upset with the officiating in the game —- Big 12 officials were used by the way —- and felt like the refs were against his team. That's usually only a feeling reserved for teams playing Alabama who tend to get calls made against them. Here's what he said after the game:

"They were getting a lot of calls," Jones said. "We felt like the refs were just against us. I'm not saying we got out of poise on our own. We felt like it was starting to be taken from us."

The refs didn't have much to do with getting outscored 21-7 in the fourth quarter though. That can be blamed on a bad Bo Scarbrough injury and the inability of the defense to get timely stops.
