Mayfield is one of the top players in college football, throwing for 3,965 yards and 40 touchdowns against just eight interceptions in 2016. Mayfield's efforts led him to finishing 3rd in the Heisman voting behind winner Lamar Jackson and runner up Deshaun Watson. After a Sugar Bowl win over Auburn to cap an 11-2 season, Mayfield announced that he would be returning to Oklahoma for the 2017 season.
With all of the controversy surrounding Joe Mixon over the past few months, this is certainly one of the last things that Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops wanted to see right now. It will be interesting to see how he handles any discipline, as a suspension could be coming for the star quarterback.
