While the situation was certainly different, the result was the same.
Eight years after former NFL wideout Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg at a Manhattan night club, and served two years in jail, former NFL wideout Josh Morgan shot himself in the league while cleaning his gun at home on New Year's Eve, according to TMZ.
Burress was handed down his jail sentence after it was discovered he was not licensed in New Jersey or New York to carry the weapon and his conceal permit expired in earlier that year in Florida. In his case, the gun slipped out of his waist band and fired, hitting the former pro in the thigh.
Morgan was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, but is expected in court in March facing misdemeanor reckless use of a firearm.
Morgan played for the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears over his seven-year career.
