Five-star defensive tackle Rashard Lewis (6-foot-3, 305 pounds, Monroe, La.) made his college decision on Friday morning. LSU fans are now very happy as Lewis announced he would be attending LSU for his collegiate career. Lawrence, picking between LSU and Ohio State, is the No. 5 ranked defensive tackle in the 2016 recruiting class according to 247Sports. Maybe more importantly, Les Miles picked up the No. 2 ranked prospect out of Louisiana. Lawrence's commitment brings LSU's verbal commit total to 22.
Prior to the announcement, LSU's recruiting class was ranked 2nd in the country behind Ohio State. Lawrence's commitment caused Tigers the jump the Buckeyes, so they now have the No. 1 ranked class. Lawrence gave some insight to ESPN's Gerry Hamilton as for what went into his decision.
"I chose LSU because of the relationships that I have developed with the players, and I've always wanted to play in Death Valley," Lawrence told ESPN. "So at the end of the day, I followed my heart. The people of Louisiana have watched me grow, and now will see me the next four years."
