Of the five Heisman trophy finalists, Michigan's Jabrill Peppers was the only defensive player who made the cut.

ESPN College Football analyst Booger McFarland said Wednesday Peppers shouldn't have made the field over Alabama's Jonathan Allen.
McFarland has a point. Allen's stats are more impressive than Peppers' stats, though Allen didn't take snaps on offense.
Peppers: 167 rush yards, 3 rush TDs, one punt return TD, 71 tackles, 15.0 TFL, 3.5 sacks 1 INT
Allen: 56 tackles, 13.0 TFL, 8.5 sacks, two defensive touchdowns
Love Peppers' athleticism, but Alabama's Jonathan Allen is the best defensive player in the country.

After McFarland made his point, Paul Finebaum went on to say Peppers has no shot of winning anyway. It seems as if this is Lamar Jackson's award to lose, but Clemson's Deshaun Watson is getting some late buzz.
