Bob Stoops is one of the biggest names in college football and, on Wednesday, word broke that the long-time Oklahoma Sooners head coach would be stepping down from his role in favor of retirement. Naturally, that news sent shock waves throughout the sport immediately and, given the (very) odd timing of the story in early June, there was plenty of buzz as to what may have motivated Stoops to take the tact that he chose.
Now, we may have an inkling into his mindset.

It makes a great deal of sense that Stoops could feel as if he has done everything he could possibly want to do in the coaching profession. Many coaches are not wired that way but, in his mid-50's, there is plenty of time for Stoops to live a full life outside of football and claiming a national title to go along with ten conference titles in the Big 12 is a pretty impressive claim to fame.
Offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley is going to take over for Stoops.
