The Big 12 finally did what everyone has called for them to do for the past five years or so. On Friday, it was announced that the conference chancellors and presidents voted unanimously to bring back a conference title by the year 2017. The conference, which currently has 10 teams, currently plays a round-robin schedule. Comissioner Bob Bowlsby said via the Associated Press that there are still "a lot of details to work out." The league has made no decision on whether to expand.

The league could, hypothetically have five-team divisions, with a couple of cross-division games thrown in to make it a "full" conference schedule. The NCAA passed a rule in January to allow the Big 12 to have a championship game despite having only 10 teams in the conference. The usual protocol for a conference to hold a championship game is 12 teams. We'll see what the Big 12 decides to do — one would suspect that the money they get from the television deal for their new conference game would appeal to a number of teams to join the Big 12.
