Auburn's running back corps was already very thin, and the Tigers got some more bad news about the position on Sunday evening. Just a week after head coach Gus Malzahn released Auburn's best returning back in Jovon Robinson, news broke that another running back was out for the season. AL.com first reported that freshman running back Stephen Davis Jr. was out for the season with a knee injury. Malzahn stated that Davis sustained the knee injury in high school and he has not fully recovered. Davis was listed on the Tiger's roster as a defensive back, but was working with the running backs early in fall camp. The true freshman played both positions in high school.

"I think at this point right now the freshmen that have a chance to play this year, fall camp is very important and just the confidence and all that," Malzahn said via AL.com. "He'll rehab and hope to have him back in the spring."

As a senior at his high school in South Carolina, Davis tore his ACL and MCL three games into the season after making the move from defensive back to running back.
