Leading 22-21 late against Northwestern, Western Michigan nearly gave the game away...literally.
With just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, quarterback Clayton Thorson scampered six yards for a touchdown, only to fumble it into the end zone.
Instead of letting the ball roll out of bounds for the touchdown, Western Michigan's Davontae Ginwright attempted to recover the fumble and throw it back into the field of play. It appeared Northwestern had recovered for the go-ahead score, but officials determined Ginwright's foot had touched out of bounds after he obtained possession of the ball.

Western Michigan would run out the clock and hold on for the victory after the near-disaster.
