Former St. John's walk on basketball player Howell Donaldson was arrested on Tuesday in a Tampa neighborhood in connection to a string of killing that had been haunting the area for about a month.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Donaldson, 24, was arrested after handing a gun — a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson — in to his manager at a local McDonald's restaurant. The manager alerted on off-duty police officer that was in the restaurant once Donaldson left, and Donaldson was taken into custody and submitted to questioning once he returned. Police later arrested Donaldson in connection with four murders that had taken over the past month in the area.
Tampa police chief Brian Dugan still described the investigation as "an ongoing situation."
The four victims in the murders were Benjamin Mitchell, 22, on Oct. 9, Monica Hoffa, 32, on Oct. 11, Anthony Naiboa, 20, on Oct. 19, and Ronald Felton, 60, on Nov. 14.

NBC Sports reported that Donaldson was a walk on basketball player with St. John's between 2011-12. The school commented that Donaldson was indeed on the team, but did not play in any games for the school.
