UPDATE: SCSU head coach Murray Garvin also gave this scary update on what happened at the game to his senior:

South Carolina State coach Murray Garvin, at the hospital with Ty Solomon, texted ESPN: “Ty is awake and responding. He says to thank everyone for all the prayers.” Garvin also said that Solomon's heart stopped and he was resuscitated by South Carolina State's athletic trainer.

A terrifying scene unfolded in North Carolina State's game against South Carolina State when SCSU senior Tyvoris Solomon suddenly collapsed on the bench. Stephen Wiseman of the Herald Sun has the description of what happened.

NC State's Markell Johnson was receiving attention for right knee injury near scorer's table. Suddenly all attention turned to SC State bench and the announcement was made calling for a doctor. EMS descended on bench. People are in tears

CPR was being administered. AED is on court too

Fans in arena clapping as stretcher carrying person is taken out of arena. Teams have gone to their respective locker rooms

Fortunately, it appears he is conscious and responsive:

South Carolina State senior guard Tyvoris Solomon was the player who collapsed on the bench during a timeout, school spokesman told ESPN. He is conscious.

He was taken to a hospital and fortunately has been stabilized:

Stricken S.C. State player, Tyvoris Solomon, has been stabilized and has been transported to Rex Hospital in Raleigh. SC State head coach Murray Garvin is with him. When game resumes, associate coach Rio Pitt will coach team

The game resumed after a 10-minute warmup period for both teams, but not until after the court was cleared and the medical emergency was handled. Garvin going with his player to the hospital sends a pretty clear message here that health and the safety of his players is more important than trying to get a win and that was absolutely the right move to make.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Solomon and his family at this time.
