Florida and LSU have some seriously bad blood after the hurricane debacle in 2016 that saw the Gators travel to Baton Rouge for the big rivalry game despite it supposed to be taking place in Gainesville. After a huge debate and shots thrown at each program by players and coaches alike, the SEC decided to award the Gators consecutive home games against LSU as compensation.

Florida is now taking the disrespect a step further by making this year's game against the Tigers the homecoming game.

That's generally a game you assign for a team you know you can beat and closer to the middle of the season. For instance, this year a good choice might have been Vanderbilt —- the week before LSU —- or UAB, which is the week before the big Florida State game. LSU is expected to have a good, if not great, team with returning star running back Derrius Guice and an improved offense under new coordinator Matt Canada.

The last time LSU was a homecoming game for the Gators —- who they play every year as part of a cross-divisional rivalry —- was in 2006 and 1996 before this year.

As noted by a follower, UF-LSU was actually the homecoming game in 2006. Bit of a fact error in the #Gators' release. UF won 23-10. https://t.co/7H1MFdJkks

And what do both of those years have in common? Those are both years when UF won the national championship so maybe the Gators actually know something we don't. Regardless of the reasoning for making it the homecoming game, LSU fans are going to be pretty upset with the decision and now this game pretty much has to be a night game because it has all the storylines you want in a major matchup and should just be a great game.
