Rice has reportedly dismissed coach David Bailiff after 11 seasons of leading the team according to Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman. The Owls went 1-11 this season and have gone 4-20 over the last two seasons. However, Bailiff also led the team to its two best seasons in Conference-USA in 2008 and 2013 with a 10-3 and 10-4 record, respectively.
The Owls capped their season with a 30-14 loss to North Texas on Saturday and it appears that was the last straw for the administration. The only win for them came against an even lowlier UTEP team that is winless this year.
Bailiff was the head coach at Texas State before landing at Rice in 2007. He led TSU to two 5-6 records with a 9-2 record and appearance in the Division I-AA Playoffs sandwiched in between those.
