It looks like the rumors are true.
According to Sports Illustrated, ESPN is set to break up the Mike & Mike radio show in favor of giving Mike Greenberg his own show on ESPN television.
SI.com has learned via multiple sources that ESPN executives are moving forward with the plan to shift Mike Greenberg—one half of the long-running Mike & Mike radio show on ESPN Radio—into a new role as the lead host of a television show that would air in the mornings on ESPN. The new show will have elements of SportsCenter — which currently airs at that time — as well as a traditional morning show.
The move comes after ESPN reportedly gave Greenberg a massive new deal that pays out north of $6 million annually. This comes in Greenberg's 21st year with ESPN, most of which he has spent doing the Mike & Mike show with broadcast partner Mike Golic.
Golic's future with the network is unclear.
Greenberg and Golic have been radio partners since 1998, making them one of the longest-running tandems in sports media. The end of their show would signal the end of one of the better pieces of ESPN programming, making this a large risk for the network.
