Looks like things are starting to get weird in Austin.

According to both 247Sports and SBNation, Texas linebacker Erick Fowler has left the program. Both sources cite a spokesperson for Texa that says there has been no change in Fowler's current status.

Fowler was one of the top recruits of the 2016 class, ranking as both a Top 10 outside linebacker and Top 100 overall recruit. Fowler was previously committed to LSU before jumping ship to then head coach Charlie Strong and the Longhorns during National Signing Day surge in the recruiting rankings.

In his freshman year with Texas, Fowler played in nine games, recording one tackle for loss.

If true, Fowler becomes the third Texas defensive player to leave the program in the past week, as defensive linemen Marcel Southall and Jordan Elliott both left the program last week. Considering that we are just past spring ball, it's not too odd to see a team installing a new coach lose some players. However, losing players the caliber of Fowler will hurt in the short run.
