Life is such a wonderful gift, it makes me humble every single time I stop and think about it. Death on the other hand is scary to think about. I still cannot fully comprehend it. Think about going to sleep and never waking up again. Step away from your laptop, cell phone, or computer and think about that for a minute or so. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Thinking about death stretches and alters your perception. Accepting something you cannot change reduces suffering. It allows you to overcome fear and punch it right in the face. It also reveals the importance of love.

Many people don’t realize, until it’s too late, that cherishing your friends and family should be your number one priority. Yes, you hear it all the time and think it’s cheesy, but before you leave you’ll realize how important the people in your life really are.

I believe that once you come face to face with death, you’ll drop your silly ego and become much more humble than you currently are.

What boggles my mind, is that our society tends to sweep the topic of death under the carpet. They don’t want to think about it now, and will worry about it later. Why!? I would argue it’s one of the most important things to think about NOW.

I don’t want to bring religion into this subject because logically speaking, there is no evidence for life after death. If there was, then we would all know by now and the “debate” about this subject wouldn’t exist. I’m quite aware of the near death experience stories, but once again things get quite blurry once you “dive in” the details and try to critically make “sense” of it.

Now I don’t want to sound like a downer, I personally stay optimistic about this sort of thing. After all, it’s quite scary to imagine you never existing again and simply rotting in the ground. As I’m writing this, I feel goosebumps slowly creeping all over my body just from thinking about it. But this isn’t a bad thing, in fact it’s very inspiring.

How is it inspiring?

If you think about it, it makes you suddenly realize that a day will come when you will have to “check out.” All of your money and material possessions will simply vanish. Sure, the people in your will might receive them, however you will no longer own them or really need them. While I cannot know for sure, the scariest part is that there is a chance of your memories and knowledge simply vanishing as well. This theory breaks my heart the most. It makes you ask the oldest question in the world, “What is the meaning for life?”

It’s interesting to think that one day, out of nowhere, you came into existence. Was that by luck or purpose? Can you find an answer to that question? I don’t think so.

For the first time ever you saw light after being in the darkness. You came here with free will not knowing what to do or what path to follow. It’s kind of like playing a first person video game, without having an option to respawn…

Thinking about death allows you to figure out what your priorities in life should be. Everybody wants to die in peace without any regrets. You must figure out what you want to accomplish and create multiple goals for yourself.

You can achieve anything and be anybody you want to be. Other people on Earth are humans just like you. They are flesh and bones, just like you. You have the ability to do anything that they do. The only limit is the one you set yourself.

I’m always baffled by how people constantly devaluate their own life and create silly excuses for themselves. If you’re one of those people, you need to get a hold of yourself and make the best out of the cards you’ve been dealt.

Most older people usually say “You’re far too young to be thinking about death.” I never understood that. It’s basically the worst kind of procrastinating one could do. I believe that you never really live, until you overcome death. Once you face it and come at peace with with it, you can actually start living your life to the fullest.

You came into this world alone and you will leave this world alone. Don’t be distracted from your inevitable demise. Use it to your advantage and live the life you want to live. If you do that, I guarantee that right before you die you will be happy that you listened to this advice. You will smile about it, rather than be saddened by treacherous regret.

After having deep conversations with her, I realize why she enjoys the little things in life. She knows that you could be gone in a heartbeat.
