So after Holly Holm (10-1) brutally knocked out Rousey, the bantamweight champion's coach targeted Tate, apparently in an effort to make a point to the world, per Fox Sports:

"He told me this to my face," Tate said about her conversation with (UFC president Dana) White. "He went down there to tell them 'don't fight Miesha Tate'. The UFC did not want that fight to happen. They wanted the rematch (with Rousey) to be the first fight. Holly's manager told him 'we want Miesha Tate' and Dana said he threw up his hands and was like 'are you (expletive) kidding me?'.

"He's like 'she's been the baddest (woman) other than Ronda for years now, and you want to take her lightly? You think you're just going to walk through her?' and he's like 'yeah we got this'. Like she's going to be a tune up fight."

And so the story goes. Holm was on her way to a decision victory, made one huge slip and got choked to sleep by Tate in her first title defense.

Now, Holm is on the outside looking in as Tate prepares for her first title defense against Amanda Nunes (12-4) at UFC 200, and the champ targets Rousey at Madison Square Garden in November.

Meanwhile, Holm will try to work her way back up the card with a main event bout against Valentina Shevchenko (12-2) at a UFC Fight Night on July 23.
