It has been a rocky offseason for LSU head coach Ed Orgeron. Being the man in charge for one of the country's most prominent college football programs will always bring notoriety but, in the same breath, Orgeron brought some potentially controversial attention on the program with his stance on satellite camps and some of the actions that he portrayed.
With that said, Orgeron is now garnering attention for something entirely different and it has to do with something that no other coach in the history of the LSU football program has done. To put it plainly, Orgeron will be assigning two players with the coveted No. 18 jersey for the 2017 season.
There's a new addition to the No. 18 club! Congratulations to J.D. Moore on being chosen to wear No. 18 alongside Christian Lacouture. pic.twitter.com/8UJ6smG5fw

J.D. Moore and Christian Lacouture will be donning the number for the next season and this harkens back to Matt Mauck and Jacob Hester, who wore the No. 18 jersey to high prominence in the early 2000's. From an outsider's perspective, this isn't a big deal, simply because neither Moore nor Lacouture are household names on a grand scale. However, this is an indication that Orgeron feels strongly about players' character and the way they represent the program, making it a big-time statement of confidence.
This tradition hasn't been around all that long but, in the same breath, it carries real weight for the LSU Tigers and this is an interesting decision as a result.
