Pro Bowl QB says he would reportedly 'seriously consider' playing for the Browns

The Washington Redskins did not operate at a level that many expected in 2017, finishing with a 7-9 record that left many with an empty feeling. One such person could be quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was paid handsomely by the team under the franchise tag for the second consecutive season, and the established starting quarterback seems to be headed to restricted free agency given the (at least relatively) prohibitive nature of yet another tag being utilized.

To that end, a number of teams with starting quarterback vacancies could make some sense for Cousins to evaluate and, on Wednesday, the 29-year-old was prompted about one of them. That theoretical opening comes in the Cleveland Browns and Cousins apparently would "seriously consider" joining the team.

It should be noted that Cleveland could pay Cousins a ton of money and that would seemingly be the only real advantage to joining the Browns over other options. Cousins was not quite as effective this season, throwing for 4,093 yards and 27 touchdowns against 13 interceptions in 2017 and that was a real step down from the previous year of nearly 5,000 passing yards.

Still, there is a real market for safe, adequate quarterback play in the league and he would provide that in a number of situations. The Browns seem more likely to go with a youngster through the draft but, if Cousins is seen as a fit, that pairing could be beneficial for both sides if all went according to plan.
