It would take a minor miracle to go an entire week without something crazy or incredibly tragic to happen in sports. The streak stayed alive this week after a University of Delaware football player was charged with assault in an unusual case involving an elderly driver and his mother.
Delaware Blue Hens sophomore running back Khory D. Spruill has been charged with second-degree assault and criminal mischief after he punched a 77-year-old driver in the head and face after the driver's car struck his mother.
Newark Police Department Lt. Andrew Rubin said the woman, identified as Sakeena Pickett via Spruill's roster bio on the Blue Hens website, was crossing South College Avenue outside of a crosswalk just before 8 p.m. when the car struck her.

Police say the driver got out of the vehicle to check on Pickett when Spruill punched the driver and dented his car.
According to reports on Delaware Online, people helped the driver get back in his car and he drove off. No charges will be filed against the driver, Lt. Rubin said.
The 77-year-old man was later contacted by police and declined medical attention for any sustained facial injuries.
Pickett was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Khory Spruill, a 19-year-old Clinton, Maryland native and former DeMatha Catholic standout, turned himself in to police and was released on a $6,500 unsecured bail, according to reports.

The 6-foot, 230-pound running back has 14 carries for 37 yards and one touchdown in 2018. He has carried the football in three games season, but did not record a single stat in October.
Delaware Online reported university officials are cooperating with Newark Police.
"As always, the safety and welfare of all members of the Blue Hens family is of the utmost priority," said UD spokesman Scott Day said.
