Former Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Joe Kines only held a brief stint at the helm of the college football powerhouse. In fact, he was only the interim head coach for one game following the dismissal of Mike Shula and before Nick Saban was hired in Tuscaloosa.
Kines coached the Crimson Tide in their Independence Bowl clash with Oklahoma State. It brought the most memorable moment of his career, too: a legendary halftime interview.

Speaking with an ESPN reporter at halftime, Joe Kines gave an iconic halftime interview for the ages. The Alabama football coach discussed what he would be telling his players during the break in order to turn the tides and get them back on track toward a victory.
Kines, in his grumbly voice, essentially just shouted back at the reporter explaining what his team needed to improve on. He told the reporter that the team will just "go play" and "keep playing" in the second half, and that's exactly what happened.
Unfortunately, his words didn't have the impact he was hoping for. The Tide lost to the Cowboys.
Prior to his stint at Alabama as DC and interim head coach, Kines also held assistant coach positions with the Clemson Tigers, Jacksonville State Gamecocks, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Texas A&M Aggies, and as a linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL.
Kines also spent one season at the helm of the Arkansas Razorbacks, leading them to an uninspiring 3-6-1 record during the 1992 season.
