Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is very familiar with Alabama, his upcoming opponent in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
After all, Fromm was committed to the Tide before flipping to the Bulldogs during his recruitment.
In an interview published by 247 Sports' Chris Hummer on Thursday, the quarterback's father, Emerson Fromm, detailed his son's interactions with Alabama coach Nick Saban, which apparently led to his decision to join Bulldogs instead.
"Nick Saban wants it to be about Alabama and Coach Saban," Emerson Fromm said. "He doesn't want you to really deal with the coordinators, even though [Lane] Kiffin was the recruiter. As soon as Kiffin kind of put his blessing on Jake, we didn't talk to Kiffin a whole lot. It was to the point where sometimes you'd might be in the indoor and see Kiffin, and he might go the other way. I'm serious. It's just bizarre. We got kind of close with Kirby because we didn't have anybody to talk to. Kirby is from Georgia and it's just easy to relate. That's why he's blowing everybody up on the recruiting end because he's just a very personable person."
"[Kirby] made it very easy when he left Alabama. It's just like a no-brainer."
Fromm also noted that his son, who ranked as the No. 4 prospect from the state of Georgia in 2017, wasn't offered by former Bulldogs coach Mark Richt, who he claimed "just didn't want" his the quarterback and said his staff didn't have "confident recruiters," implying that they wouldn't attempt to sign five-star prospects at the same position in consecutive classes.
In this case, Georgia signed Jacob Eason, a five-star prospect during the previous recruiting cycle, who eventually replaced by Fromm as the Bulldogs' starting quarterback early in 2017.
