According to the Gainesville Times out of Georgia, former South Carolina defensive end Paul Martin was killed last weekend in an apparent murder-suicide.
Per the report, Martin's son called the family, and the family believed that the son was feeling suicidal. Martin went to check on his son that night, where the police later found both men killed by gunfire.

The sheriff's office believes Cameron Martin shot his father, contacted his family and then shot himself. Members of Martin's family called law enforcement. The case remains under investigation and no additional details are being released by the sheriff's office, according to spokesman Deputy Stephen Wilbanks.
Martin was a reserve player for the Gamecocks in the 1982 and 1983 seasons. According to his obituary, Martin played in the Canadian Football League for two years. After his playing days were over, Martin became a radiologist.
