The Miami Hurricanes have recruited well ever since longtime Georgia Bulldogs' head coach Mark Richt took over the program — even sitting atop 247sports' football team composite ranks for the class of 2018 as of this writing.

Prior to Reed's announcement that he chose the Hurricanes, he revealed on March 25 that Miami, North Carolina and Florida, in that order, were in his top 3.
247sports has Reed as the No. 6 guard in the class of 2018 overall and the No. 140 player overall.
