Brandon Vandenburg has been held behind bars in Nashville since June when he was found guilty of aggravated rape, aggravated sexual battery and unlawful photography. He has now been sentenced to 17 years in prison for his actions three years ago when he brought a young woman into his dorm room and orchestrated a gang rape, The Tennessean.

Vandenburg's sentence will not allow for early parole and will permanently stay on the sex offender registry list, per the report. Three people took the witness stand in the trial and said that they believed Vandenburg could be rehabilitated in prison. Thirty other people also reportedly wrote letters to the judge in support of the former Commodore.

The 6'6" former tight end has now been found guilty on the charges twice by two separate Nashville juries. Four members of the Vanderbilt football team were charged with aggravated rape and other crimes for the incident that occurred on that June 2013 night.
Brandon E. Banks and Jaborian "Tip" McKenzie, have pleaded not guilty and their cases are pending. Corey Batey was sentenced to the minimum 15 years of prison time under Tennessee law.
