The Arizona State Sun Devils have a long and cherished history in the world of college football and, while there are many titans of that legacy, the school's most prominent and famous head coach has been Frank Kush for an extended period of time. On Thursday, unfortunately, the school confirmed that the legendary figure has passed away at the age of 88.

As of now, the official cause of death for Kush is unknown and he passed away earlier on Thursday. The end of Kush's tenure at Arizona State was marred by controversy, as he was fired in 1979 on the heels of an investigation about his handling of a player. With that said, Kush was the head coach for the Sun Devils beginning in December of 1957 and his tenure spanned more than two decades.

Kush was also highly successful at ASU, amassing an impressive 176-54-1 overall win-loss record and a number of conference titles. In fact, Arizona State once claimed five consecutive conference championships (from 1969 through 1973) during his tenure and the program has not been able to replicate that level of overwhelming and consistent success in recent years.

Frank Kush clearly lived a full life but we want to send thoughts and prayers to his family and friends at this unfortunate time.
