The Florida Gators needed a new defensive coordinator after Geoff Collins left for the Temple head coaching job, and it looks like they have found their guy. On Friday, Florida announced that linebackers coach Randy Shannon had been promoted to defensive coordinator.

Shannon was named the interim defensive coordinator for Florida ahead of the Outback Bowl, which the Gators won in dominant 30-3 fashion over Iowa.
Shannon has previous experience as Miami's head coach and defensive coordinator, as well as linebackers coach for TCU, Arkansas, and the aforementioned Hurricanes. He takes over a Gators defense that has consistently been rated near the top of college football in recent years.
