"David Cornwell has left the team and asked for his release from the program. We appreciate his contributions and wish him the best moving forward. The team's focus remains on preparing for the Mountain West conference opener this weekend." - Nevada spokesperson Chad Hartley

Cornwell completed 13 of 25 passes for Nevada in their 45-7 loss to Washington State over the weekend, throwing three interceptions along the way.

The former four-star recruit didn't throw any passes for Alabama before transferring.

Cornwell and fellow former Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett lost the starting competition for the Crimson Tide to Jalen Hurts. Barnett transferred to Arizona State in the fall.
