According to a report from ESPN and the Associated Press, former Oakland Raiders defensive back Dave Grayson has died. He was 78-years-old.
The Raiders officially acknowledged Grayson's death with a statement from owner Mark Davis on Sunday.
"The Raiders family is saddened by the passing of Dave Grayson," said Owner Mark Davis. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Grayson family."
Grayson played 10 years in the league, starting out with the Dallas Texans from 1961-1962 before going to the Kansas City Chiefs for two seasons. Though he did notch 19 interceptions in his first four seasons, he made his biggest impact in the NFL with the Raiders from 1965-1970.
In six seasons with the Raiders, Grayson played in 84 games, starting 42. He snagged 29 interceptions over that time period (seventh all-time in Raiders history), taking four back for a touchdown. He also grabbed two fumble recoveries in six seasons in Oakland.
Grayson's best season in the league was truly a monumental one with the Raiders, 1968. In that season, he picked off 10 total passes, accumulating 195 return yards.
A six-time Pro Bowler as well as a four-time All-Pro, Grayson, who played college ball at Oregon, was also a kick and punt returner for the Texans, Chiefs, and Raiders.
