In the middle of the holiday season, Kansas football player Chase Harrell reportedly witnessed his brother shot and killed at a house party near his home in Houston, per Lawrence Journal-World.
Harrell's brother, a 23-year-old former high school football star, died after an alleged fight at a house party turned deadly.
According to the Houston Chronicle, a man (Isaiah Kain Salas-Martinez) showed up to the party after receiving a call from his girlfriend.
Salas-Martinez was armed with a shotgun and pistol according to KPRC Houston, which escalated a dispute. According to the report, Chase, his brother Cole and another person attempted to disarm Salas-Martinez. That resulted in one shot to Cole's chest.
"We're not sure if it was some kind of accidental discharge or if somebody pulled the trigger," said Houston police investigator Shaun Sylvester.
Salas-Martinez turned himself into police and was arrested, per the report. He is accused of killing Harrell.
As a redshirt freshman, Chase Harrell played in 12 games, caught five passes for 81 yards and scored two touchdowns.
