Former ESPN analyst Brett McMurphy may not be working for the company any more, but he is still releasing his own predictions for bowl games, including the College Football Playoff. His group of four schools is incredibly odd and has two major omissions.
He has Ohio State playing Oklahoma State in a semifinal game and then has Auburn playing Washington in the other. There's no Alabama and no Clemson who are both in the top three of the AP Poll right now. With Florida State losing the game against Alabama and quarterback Deondre Francois for the season, the Tigers immediately become the favorite to win the ACC, which should also make them a favorite to get to the CFP.
Not including Alabama after a win like they had over FSU is also pretty inexcusable. However, with the inclusion of Auburn McMurphy is pretty much saying that they will beat their in-state rivals and win the SEC. That's a bit of a stretch considering Auburn still has arguably its biggest game of the season against Clemson in Week 2 and could very well lose that game since Clemson seems to not have dropped off at all after losing Deshaun Watson to the NFL Draft.
