Well this is a lot of confidence in one team.
The online sportsbook Bovada released updated odds for the College Football Playoff champion for this upcoming season, and to little surprise, Alabama (12/5) was on top. Where there was surprise, though, as with the team ranking with the fifth-best odds in the country: Michigan at 16/1.
At 16/1, Michigan is only behind Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, and USC. They are also tied with Penn State and Oklahoma, and ahead of teams like LSU, Clemson, Wisconsin, and Washington.
While many people are fully on board with Jim Harbaugh and his tenure at Michigan, the Wolverines have one major problem: they only return five starters from last year's 10-win team, and while Harbaugh has recruited well, it is going to take some time to replace guys like Jabrill Peppers, Jourdan Lewis, and Taco Charlton on defense.
If Harbaugh does manage such a run this year, then more power to him. But for now, it might be best for fans to temper their expectations for Michigan this season, and wait for what should be another breakout year in 2018.
