Howard's Rock is one of college football's most iconic landmarks and when it gets vandalized someone is going to take notice. That is what happened two years ago when Micah Rogers of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina allegedly broke off a small part of the rock off its pedestal. Rogers was caught on camera and was identified by a witness. He was originally charged with a pair of misdemeanors, but those were upgraded once the university found out the damage to the rock was valued at over $10,000.
Police later arrested the father of Micah, Michael Rogers, and 17-year old Alden James Gainey for their alleged connection to the vandalism. Each was charged with felony counts of conspiracy and obstructing justice.
For those that don't know, the rock is named after Hall of Fame coach Frank Howard who coached at Clemson for 30 years. In those three decades he amassed over 150 wins and led the team to an undefeated season in 1949. He was not only inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame but also the South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and the Clemson Ring of Honor.
